ACCORDING TO THE WEATHER NEWS ISSUED AT 16H25 TODAY, A HEAVY RAIN WARNING IS IN FORCE IN MAURITIUS, AS ANNOUNCED BY THE METEOROLOGICAL SERVICES OF MAURITIUS.
It’s been raining cats and dogs since midmorning. Rivers are overflowed with water, everybody is getting drenched, with or without the umbrella, and the roads are, as if, fogged. As had been forecast by the Meteorological Centre of Vacoas yesterday, torrential rains are hitting the island today. The service of firemen has been sollicited by many already, on account of many houses having been flooded with the rainwater.
The situation is pretty much the same all over the island: from Curepipe to Mahebourg, to Coromandel, and not forgetting Port-Louis. The underground passageways at Caudan, that have now become a symbol of death, have been closed.
Accidents have occurred at Phoenix , Riche-Terre, Caudan, and at Vale as well. Visibility on roads is quite poor, so, drivers, be safe! The recent damage of the new Ring Road is worrying many living in the region of Pailles. The authorities are already in a state of alarm.
Following the heavy rains, 12 families have had to be evacuated from Chitrakoot, a village that is often under the sway of torrential rains.
While some are worried about the lives of their closed ones who have not yet reached home, others are worried about something very much different. Will the races be held tomorrow at Champ de Mars? Tomorrow is supposed to mark the start of the new racing season. The MTC has pronounced that a decision will be made tomorrow.
Everyone, please stay safe 😉
