Yesterday, we reported the armed attack of a petrol station. The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday. 3 men, armed with machetes, got away with Rs 60 000 from the filling station, but, not without sustaining injuries. The owner of the service station and his employee attempted to defend themselves as much as they could, leaving one of their assailants wounded at the level of the arm. Police investigations had been going on since. Following leading clues, officers of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Central Division arrested 2 brothers and their accomplice yesterday.
The police had asked for detailed descriptions of the aggressors from the 2 victims. One of the assailants apparently owned a motorcycle on which they travelled to get to the petrol station. The police later on deduced that the descriptions given by the Sanjeev, the owner of the service station, and his employee fitted the profile of a certain Lionel Barbeau, who had been previously stopped at a roadblock on Sunday at around 10 in the morning.
The police therefore decided to look for Lionel Barbeau.
At the same time, the police had also warned the hospitals and health centres to be on their guard, since one of the attackers had been injured in the arm. Well, seems like the injured attacker did not pay attention to his own doings. It has been reported that a man presented himself at the Victoria Hospital at Candos for such an injury. Berny Barbeau is the man who is the main suspect in this regard. Irony has it that Berny Barbeau has been part of the police force for 8 years now. At the same time, you’d wonder, how come someone in the police force would wind up at a hospital, knowing that the authorities must have alerted both hospitals and health centres.
Investigators found Rs 4000, shoes of the brand Nike, and new clothing at the houses of the suspects. It has been said that these have been bought with part of the money robbed. Lionel Barbeau was arrested at around noon yesterday, and his brother, Berny, was arrested some hours later. A third suspect, going by the name of Ivance Lindor, had been questioned regarding this affair. All 3 of them, inhabitants of Cité Malherbes, Curepipe, will have to appear in court today.
