The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) has had to reimburse many who had previously paid more than they should have of the tax that was upon them to pay. The MRA has returned as huge an amount as Rs 26 millions. They started the procedure of returning back the money to those it was due just after the deadline for the filling of the forms had passed. Until now, more than 8000 people have been reimbursed; of these, 6300 have been paid back by cheque and the rest by bank transfer.
According to Ludovic Thanay, the officer responsible for communication at the MRA, the reimbursement will be made in 3 months’ time, after the submission of the form. In case this deadline is not meant, the MRA will pay back with interest. As the reports are being examined, whoever has to be paid back is being paid back.
