Lately in Cameroon, many criminal activities having been perpetrated are being linked back to the terrorist group Boko Haram. The wife of the vice president was recently kidnapped. A town mayor was also kidnapped. It is still unclear, though, whether these two kidnappings have been done by the same criminals.
After the kidnapping of dozens of young girls by Boko Haram recently, now it’s the turn of the wife of a high profile African politician (vice PM of Cameroon) to be kidnapped by the terrorist group Boko Haram. Cameroon officials stated that around three people have been killed in an attack initiated by Boko Haram officials in the town of Kolofata. In another attack attributed to Boko Haram, the town mayor, Seini Boukar Lamine, has also been kidnapped. He also happens to be a religious leader.
The responsibility of the two kidnappings was not claimed immediately though.
Cameroon’s military officials are now working hard to combat those behind the crime. The vice prime minister was taken away by the security officials to another town. They attested that the situation has now reached a critical level. The soldiers have been fighting against the members of Boko Haram all the while. Many of the soldiers have also been killed.
During the investigations, 22 people have been arrested, being suspected of being affiliated to Boko Haram. They had been caught since March. Last week, they were sentenced to imprisonment for 10 to 20 years.
