Over the years, heroin has proved to be the drug which is the most seized at the customs in Mauritius. The value of the heroin seized has only increased over and over, with a flabbergasting amount of Rs 149 985 000 during the first six months of this year (2014).
According to the latest statistics revealed by the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA), the most popular drug having been seized by the customs officers during these last three years is heroin.
In 2011, heroin amounting up to Rs 34 830 000 was seized, while in 2012 a slight decrease was observed at Rs 33 735 000. However, the year 2013 has witnessed a whole new level: the heroin seized last year was of a value reaching as much as Rs 177 526 500. Now, during the first six months of this year, from January 2014 to June 2014, heroin of a value of Rs 149 985 000 has already been seized.
Seems like this year, the amount will increase even more than it did last year – if the trend continues, that is.
