The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, has as purpose to reward firms striving in the tourist sector all across the globe. Last week, it bestowed upon Mauritius eight awards for this year’s Indian Ocean region award ceremony.
Mauritius has been shining on international platforms this year for quite similar reasons. For decades now, the island has been commonly called “The Paradise Island” for its beauty and warmth. It has the tradition of attracting hundreds of thousands of tourists from all around the world yearly. International awarding bodies have not failed to recognise its worth. Earlier this year, the SSR International Airport together with the national airline company, Air Mauritius, earned prestigious awards from the airline reviewing company, Skytrax, based in the UK. Now, it is the World Travel Awards (WTA) that has acknowledged “the paradise island” appeal.
During the ceremony of the 21st edition of the WTA, the island received eight awards. Mauritius now bears the title of “best wedding/honeymoon destination in the Indian Ocean”. Some weeks back, it was ranked first in the French magazine “Mariée” as best honeymoon destination in the Indian Ocean.
Mauritius also won the following “Indian Ocean’s awards”:
- Leading Airline
- Leading Airline Lounge
- Boutique Hotel
- Dive Destination
- Hotel Suite
- Leading Resort
- Spa Resort
The winners of other regions of the world – Middle East, Europe, South America – were already announced at the start of the year. Now the awards for Asia, North America and the Carribean region will be made public on November 29th.
