Is it now the turn of the employees of the hotel sector to follow in the steps of those from the sugar and transport industries? Similar reasons would fuel the drastic actions, if ever they are to be taken.
As from the 1st of September, employees of big hotels have had a pay rise by 20 %, while those from small ones became elligible to 6 – 9 % pay rise. In addition to these, their working conditions have also been updated.
Not everyone has rejoiced over the changes. The employers including those from AHRIM and Mauritius Employers’ Federation do not seem to agree with the new decision of the government.
Does this herald the onset of friction between employer and the employee? Time only will tell.
