It has been an eventful year for the employees of the transport sector. On the 11th of October, they had gone on strike because the authorities had not agreed to their request for a pay rise. They now state being satisfied with the latest developments. The minister Shakeel Mohamed has also reassured them that the new regulations will be published soon enough.
The strike that was to pervade the transport sector on the 2nd of December, while waiting for the Remuneration Order to be made official, has been postponed to the 8th of the same month. The Union of Bus Industry Workers (UBIW) is, however, satisfied with this first phase where the developments have been in their favour, but, according to Ashok Subron, they still prefer to be cautious.
The group of 8000 employees are currently waiting for the documents and dates for future regulations to be published in the Government Gazette. The minister Shakeel Mohamed has indicated that this will soon happen in the coming days.
As for the work conditions, they will be put into force in 2016.
