The employees of the sugar industry had finally come to an agreement with the MSPA after going on strike: they now have a 13 % salary increase. However, they were refused to be paid seniority bonuses, and attendance ones.
Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo, who is soon to hold the post of Minister of Finance, has appealed to the sugar industry employers to pay the workers with the aim of attaining national appeasement. He hopes that the sugar manufacturers will take his request into consideration.
