The guest of honour for the celebrations of the 47th independence anniversary of Mauritius on the 12th of March is none other than the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
Mauritius and India have always been known for their exceptional bilateral ties with each other. It is of no surprise that Prime Minister Modi was chosen as the official guest for the Independence Day celebrations.
The Indian Prime Minister confirmed his acceptance of the invitation on Monday 26th of January. The official invitation of the Mauritian Prime Minister, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, was personally handed over to him by Minister Showkutally Soodhun during the latter’s visit to India at the beginning of this month.
Minister Showkutally Soodhun had been to India on the occasion of the 13th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, on the 8th of January. A number of other issues were discussed during that meeting, including the topic of the light metro project for which India was ready to invest, and the invitation for the Independence Day of Mauritius.
