The Minister of Finance, Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo, affirmed that the State cannot guarantee the jobs of the employees of the BAI. He made this statement in Parliament today, as a response to the Private Notice Question (PNQ) put forth by the Leader of the Opposition, Paul Berenger.
As for the employees of the ex-Bramer Bank, he said that they have nothing to fear. Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo explained that the latter have already received their salaries on the 20th of April. Furthermore, the procedures governing their transfer to the National Commercial Bank are underway. He also promised that their conditions of employment will still be applicable.
The Minister of Finance also indicated that there was consensus among the board of directors of the Bank of Mauritius when it came to the revocation of the licence of the Bramer Bank.
The Leader of the Opposition also asked of the pertinence of the cancellation of the licence of the ex-Bramer Bank. According to him, there were other options as to the fate of the bank. Answering to his queries, Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo said that they have had to react immediately, and had to deal with a crisis situation.
