The Italian authorities have allegedly been convinced that Nandanee Soornack is to be extradited. The file compiled by CCID officers seems to have worked in the latter’s favour. According to l’Express.mu, an officer from the Italian Ministry of Justice has confirmed that Italy supports the initiative. Also, when the Italian government asked the Mauritian one to cater for a fair trial for Soornack, the latter agreed.
Chief Inspector Dawoodharry and Inspecteur Goinden of the CCID met with officers of the Italian Ministry of Justice after they travelled to Italy to launch the procedures of the extradition of Soornack; though, to do so, they would need the green light of the Italian government. They also had a meeting with an examining judge, who judged in the favour of the request of the CCID to return Soornack to Mauritius.
On the other hand, Nandanee Soornack allegedly fears lest her fundamental rights are baffled once she returns to the island. Therefore, her lawyers have been trying to counter the request for her extradition.
Meanwhile, the Mauritian government has given the guarantee that she will have a fair trial, as requested by the Italian authorities.
