3 French tourists have been attacked by armed men at the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden on the 14th of May. A couple and a young girl were walking across the garden when some men obstructed their way, threatening them with a cutter. When they tried to seize the handbag of the woman, the latter’s companion stepped forward to defend her – that was when he was severely wounded by the criminals, and he was later taken to the Jeetoo hospital. It is said that the armed robbers are members of a well-trained gang.
After attacking the three tourists, injuring one of them, and unable to get what they wanted, the armed thieves ran away, leaving the bag behind.
Fortunately, the vehicle in which they had travelled might soon be identified since their license plate was recorded.
Rumour has it that the robbers are part of an organised gang. They are allegedly not the typical pickpockets, but rather are experimented, operating in a network.
Security at the botanical garden
Two police officers are posted at the garden during visiting hours. However, this does not mean that the whole of the garden is guarded at all times – the policemen do patrol the areas, but they cannot be everywhere either.
