The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) has launched a campaign to sensitise Mauritians about fiscal responsibility and with a view to encouraging them to use electronic platforms. To attain its aims, the MRA had organised lucky draws: the E-Filing Draw and the Vat Lucky Draw 2015.
The winners of the draws were announced on the 29th of April at Port-Louis.
For E-Filing, 20 persons have won prizes from Rs 5 000 to Rs 50 000. All those who had filled in the forms for the declaration of revenues online were regarded as participants. The first winner is Vinoshini Parian who won Rs 50 000, followed by Abdul Rauf Saikh (Rs 25 000), and Marie Joelle Marlys Ithier (15 000).
According to the statistics revealed on Wednesday, as announced by the Director of the MRA, Sudhamo Lal, 95 % of the tax payments have been done electronically – this marks a 17 % increase compared to last year. Also, the MRA has received Rs 64 billion electronically.
The VAT Lucky Draw has resulted in 20 winners for the first trimester during which the MRA received 7000 receipts. Participants were consumers who had registered on the website of the MRA or who had sent messages as to the identification numbers found on receipts they obtained from traders from January to March of this year.
