Repeatedly getting arrested for different cases undoubtedly comes with bitter consequences, among which is the payment of bail money. The lawyer of Navin Ramgoolam has thus appealed to the court to have the bail reduced for him.
Navin Ramgoolam appeared in the court of Curepipe today following his arrest relating to the Dufry affair. To be released on bail, he initially had to pay Rs 100,000 for the 2 charges (conspiracy and bribery) levelled against him. His lawyer then pointed out that he has already paid Rs 850,000 after being arrested several times this year.
«I inform the court that my client is already on bail in no less that 7 cases.»
Furthermore, he has signed acknowledgements of debt amounting to Rs 6.5 million. On top of that, there is a freezing order and a restraining order on his property.
The request of the lawyer was then granted by magistrate Sockalingum-Juwaheer who lowered it to Rs 50,000. Also, Navin Ramgoolam had to pay an acknowledgement of debt of Rs 500,000.
The ex-PM will have to appear in court again on the 12th of November.
