Since the PTr has not actively participated in the 2015 municipal elections, it was expected that its members would incline towards voting for the MMM. To the surprise of everyone though, its very leader, Navin Ramgoolam, abstained from voting altogether. His absence was specially noticed yesterday.
The absence of Navin Ramgoolam at the municipal elections was very much felt yesterday. While the other political personalities, including the Prime Minister and the leaders of political parties registered at Vacoas-Phoenix, went to their respective centres to vote, Navin Ramgoolam was nowhere to be seen.
Yesterday morning, one of his bodyguards had gone to Dr Maurice Curé College to inspect the area. Navin Ramgoolam’s own visit was anticipated since then. However, throughout the day, he gave no sign of it. Furthermore, it seemed like noone was aware as to when he would arrive, if he were to vote. At the closure of the urns, it was then understood that he had abstained from voting.
