Post-MSAW Scandal: New Sterilisation Campaign For Dogs To Be Launched

The Minister of Agro-Industry, Mahen Seeruttun, affirms that the activities of the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW) will be reviewed. Following the video released on YouTube depicting its employees ill-treating stray dogs, the Mauritian public reacted vehemently against the organisation. In a press conference last week, the minister said that this would not happen again. Furthermore, the ministry will launch a new sterilisation campaign.

The MSAW has already stopped the mass-capture of stray dogs while a police investigation is ongoing.

A new board for the organisation might be nominated soon (including a new president). The ministry also promises to provide more financial and human resources to the MSAW.

Furthermore, the ministry will shoulder the responsibility of sterilising 150,000 stray dogs.
