A project of a 5-star hotel including a casino will soon start off at Grand-Gaube. A Mauritian residing in Hong-Kong for a couple of years now, Desmond Chu, is behind the idea.
Desmond Chu is the son of Jean Ah-Chuen who is commonly known as Chu. He has seemingly responded to the call of the Minister of Finance, Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo, who recently encouraged Mauritians who have settled abroad to return to the country. He is expected to travel to Mauritius in the company of businessmen from Hong Kong on August 15 to start off discussions with the ministries concerned – the Ministry of Finance and of Tourism – as well as with the Board of Investment. The construction of the hotel is to begin as soon as possible.
A piece of land has already been identified for the project which has been named “Phoenix”. Not much information about the project is available to the public at the moment. But, it is known that one of its main features includes a private casino. It has also been said that the casino will not be opened to Mauritians, but only to tourists and foreign travellers. The aim of the casino will be to attract tourists passionate of casino games from Asian countries.
