Over 700 Gastroenteritis Cases Reported In Mauritius In July

It’s that time of the year again when Mauritians at large suffer from infectious diseases like gastroenteritis. The Ministry of Health recommends the public to take to preventive measures to avoid getting infected, specially because hundreds and hundreds of people have fallen sick already.

Mauritians all across the island have been reported to be suffering from gastroenteritis. 731 such cases have been recorded at the five regional hospitals since the 29th of June to the 5th of July. A week earlier, from the 22nd to the 28th of June, 711 individuals were affected by the sickness. The Ministry of Health has therefore issued a communiqué to inform the public of the current situation.

The authorities urge the population to take the necessary precautions to avoid infection. For instance, properly boiling water before drinking, eating freshly prepared meals, and taking care to wash fruits and vegetables before consuming them will greatly reduce the risk of contamination.
