MCB Survey: More & More Mauritians Using Smartphones

Smartphones are taking over more and more households. A survey performed by the Mauritius Commercial Bank (MCB) reveals that 85 % of the 352 participants representative of the Mauritian population own a smartphone.

Smartphones: The new addiction

The survey of the MCB aimed at understanding the use of telephones, smartphones, tablets, and other electronic devices that are becoming increasingly popular.

A large proportion of the Mauritian population use a smartphone for a wide variety of purposes.

Smartphones & online social networks

Of the 85 % of the participants – all in the age group 35-44 years of age – using a smartphone, 58 % log into their social media accounts at least once a day.

They use the device all the time. While the PC or laptop are more often used during office hours, the tablet is mostly used in the evening.

32 % of the volunteers bought a smartphone from a specialised store.

Using phones in the bathroom!

45 % have their mobile phones with them in the bathroom (unsurprisingly). Furthermore, 58 % of them go to fetch the phone if they forget to bring it.
