Taxpayers are called to fill in the tax forms. The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) opened its E-filing service for the financial year 2015-2016 yesterday, August 25.
The exercise is to cover the period starting from January 1 to June 30, that is, for revenues obtained in the first six months of the year marking the change of the financial year which starts as from July 1 to end on June 30 2016.
The MRA looks forward to obtaining 150,000 forms duly filled electronically till September 30; the latter date is also the deadline to pay the tax for those doing so personally. As for those paying online, they have until October 15.
It is to be noted that the E-filing service will be accessible on smartphones, tablets and computers.
Those who filled in the forms online 4 months ago must enter the same password and Tax Account Number as ID: they will thus have a form that has been partially filled in already. If the person has forgotten his password, he can retrieve it by mailing the MRA, or fill in a new form altogether.
Furthermore, the MRA will open Free Income Tax Assistance Centres in several towns on September 26 and 27.
