The new set of laws governing traffic on our roads was recently applied for the first time. More than a thousand Mauritians have already committed one or several of the 11 offences formulated in the laws: 1,072 fines have been issued to drivers from July 27 to August 9, according to the latest statistics of the Traffic Branch.
The 46 Speed Cameras are still not operational though. Therefore, meanwhile, drivers exceeding speed limits are being monitored via 14 hand-held speed detectors and 6 radar mobiles.
The Speed Cameras will be switched on for testing from August 13 to August 19.
According to l’Express.mu, the Traffic Branch has observed a minor change in the behaviour of drivers upon application of the new laws.
