Will Mauritius host the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) in 2019? The president of the committee, Philipe Hao Thyn Voon, was to officially announce their decision today. However, this has been postponed for tomorrow, Friday, August 3.
Initially, it was suggested that the Comoro Islands would host the next games. However, yesterday, Mauritius was proposed as the host. For now, it is said that the final decision is more likely to fall on Mauritius than on the Comoros. Philipe Hao Thyn Voon will inform of their choice tomorrow.
Why was Mauritius mentioned when the Comoros was first on the list? Philipe Hao Thyn Voon explained that their organisation did not yet have the relevant information as to the infrastructure available in the Comoro Islands whose authorities had not submitted the necessary documents. However, the committee wishes to give them another chance to do so.
