Zika Virus Spreading: Mauritian Authorities Take Necessary Precautions

The world knows yet another epidemic: the Zika virus has emerged in Brazil since the beginning of the year and the world authorities have raised the alarm.

The World Health Organisation is warning against the Zika virus that has been spreading in Brazil. The airport and port of Mauritius are currently under high surveillance for any suspected case.

The virus is similar to those responsible for dengue fever and chikungunya. The symptoms also bear close resemblance to the other two diseases’. Infected people suffer from high fever, muscular pain, and might even develop neurological complications that could result in paralysis.

Another measure taken by the Mauritian authorities includes keeping the mosquito population in check throughout the island since the insect is the vector of the disease.
