7,358 families are registered under the Social Register of Mauritius (SRM), as indicated by the minister of social security, Fazila Daureeawoo, in a press conference, yesterday, September 16.
One of the aims of the authorities is to identify the families subsisting on less than Rs 6,200 per month. Now that the families are registered, their revenues, standard of living, and their specific needs for help will have to be determined.
The different ministries will work in concert. They will all have access to the relevant information to be able to carry out the required tasks to assist the families. Thus, the government intends to combat poverty in Mauritius.
Furthermore, the minister of social integration and economic empowerment, Pradeep Roopun, explains that 5 experts from abroad will soon evaluate the poverty-stricken areas in the island.
