A sterilisation campaign for dogs was launched yesterday by the government, reports DefiMedia.info.
The Ministry of Agro-Industry organised a sterilisation campaign for dogs yesterday, September 2, at Union Park.
Of the 300,000 dogs in Mauritius, over 60,000 are strays, according to the minister. We are among the countries with a very high rate of dogs per number of inhabitants: one dog for 4 inhabitants. This might constitute a problem for the environment, as per the statements of the minister reported by DefiMedia.info. Therefore, the government has decided to invest Rs 10 million for the project of sterilisation.
The minister also announced a restructuring of the Mauritius Society for Animal Welfare (MSAW) to provide a better service.
