In the aftermath of the series of vandalism cases that occurred last week on places of worship, several suspects have been arrested by the police. Today, September 8, a 26-year-old man was taken into police custody because he allegedly made racist statements on social media.
Until now, 8 individuals have been arrested by the police.
L’Express.mu reports that a provisional charge of “stirring up civil war” was held against the suspect who was arrested and interrogated at the CCID today.
Another Internet-user appeared in the court of Port-Louis earlier today for similar reasons. The police objected against his release and he was brought back to a cell.
Many more individuals suspected of having incited racial hatred online will be arrested; the police is currently searching for them. The Cybercrime Unit has elaborated a list of around 30 suspicious Facebook-users, according to DefiMedia.info.
