Anti-Illicit Enrichment Draft Legislation Presented in Parliament Today

A number of bills were presented in Parliament today morning, October 27, including one to curb illicit enrichment.

The Good Governance and Integrity Reporting Bill, meant to combat illicit enrichment, was proposed.

The Minister of Finance, Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo, also presented the Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2014. The proposed legislation entails a supplementary budget of Rs 1.7 billion for the financial year 2014.

Since the Leader of the Opposition, Paul Berenger, was absent, Reza Uteem was the one to speak up. He believes that supplementary budgets must first be approved at the National Assembly before the respective ministries can use the funds.
