The smart cities projects seem to attract foreign investors from Saudi Arabia and China.
According to l’Express.mu, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has shown interest in providing financial assistance for the construction of a hotel and a fishing port.
Ahmed Al Khateeb, a special correspondent of prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, was in Mauritius last week-end. It appears that KSA authorities might be willing to inject their money in the smart cities.
Chinese investors have also indicated their intention to participate in the development projects. A team of promoters came to Mauritius yesterday, October 2. They attended a workshop with the Minister of Land and Housing, Showkutally Soodhun. They also met with the Board of Investment and the Minister of Finance.
The Chinese also wish to construct a hotel and a casino. They are currently looking for pieces of land to accommodate for their projects. Another team of representatives of the Chinese government will arrive in Mauritius by the end of November to make of their projects a reality.
