The Ministry of Public Infrastructure and the Ministry of Finance plan to fund a project to set up solar-powered street lights.
The project is scheduled for next year; the authorities have already launched negotiations for its funding, according to l’Express.mu.
The aim of the endeavour is to provide a long-term solution to prevent cables of streetlights to be robbed. L’Express.mu reports that this has grown into an issue in many areas, and more particularly in the region from Midlands to Plaisance. Consequently, a number of roads are left in the dark. Replacing the cables thereafter requires more funding from the government.
The first phase of the project will be extended to the motorway and new roads falling under the Road Decongestion Programme.
