New procedures will govern the acquisition of State lands, announced the Ministry of Housing and Lands, yesterday, December 15.
The new procedures are applicable to both those wishing to request for a piece of State land and those who have already made the request. The latter will, therefore, have to start the steps all over.
The rules are relevant for residential, commercial, agricultural, and social projects or religious purposes. The respective forms will have to be filled in and reports submitted. Those applying for commercial or industrial purposes will have to produce a business plan.
Everything will be done in all transparency – the names of the beneficiaries of the lands will be published in the Government Gazette. One of the aims of the new regulations is to prevent recent scandals that involved close friends of politicians of the previous government.
