Minister of Finance Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo has responded to the proposal of giving a Rs 250- salary compensation for employees of the public and private sector obtaining a salary of up to Rs 10,000.
The minister had a meeting with union activists. The private sector proposed a salary compensation of Rs 250 for employees at the lower end of the scale. The cabinet then analysed the proposal today afternoon.
Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo thereafter announced the amount of the compensation during a press conference.
The government had initially agreed to give a compensation of Rs 150 to civil employees and those of the private sector. However, union activists had deemed the amount to be inadequate.
