Tightened Measures On Our Roads: 838 Drivers Sanctioned

838 drivers have been sanctioned from 6 a.m. on December 24 to 6 a.m. on December 28.

The police have issued 209 fines for those exceeding speed limits and 15 breath alcohol tests were positive.

For the same period last year, 2,340 fines were issued, among which 74 involved exceeding speed limits.

Police officers of the Traffic Branch, the Divisional Traffic Police, and the Emergency Response Service will perform numerous roadside checks. They will make up 32 teams to do so.

Thanks to the activation of all the cameras, the police has been able to track those not abiding by the rules and regulations governing driving on our roads; this includes 49 speed cameras, 6 mobile ones, and 17 hand-held cameras. The latter two types will be used for roads where the greatest numbers of speeding cases are noted as well as on streets where accidents often happen, explains the Chief Inspector of the Traffic Branch, Mohit Rama, in a statement to l’Express.mu.

The hand-held cameras will be operated by officers of the Divisional Traffic Police.
