The bookmakers of Champ-de-Mars will not go forward with their strike.
It was initially decided that the bookmakers would go on strike on Saturday, March 26, on the first day of the horse racing season. It was confirmed yesterday afternoon that the strike would happen until further notice.
Now, they have announced that they will not go forward with it.
They were protesting against the increase in the fee (from 1.5% to 4.5%) they were to pay to the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC). Now, the fee has been brought down to a “flat rate”.
