The 48th Independence Day anniversary (also the 24th year as a republic) will be marked by the presence of guest of honour M. Hery Rajaonarimampianina, the President of Madagascar. His visit to the island is expected to consolidate the bilateral relationships between the two countries.

Mauritius and Madagascar have maintained diplomatic ties since August 1968. The Mauritian embassy has been operational in Madagascar since 1990. The two have signed a number of bilateral agreements.

The economic relationship has been further strengthened with the agreement that calls for the assistance of Mauritius in establishing economic exchange in Madagascar. With “economic exchange zones” in Madagascar, both countries will reap benefits as the latter has the necessary resources while Mauritius has the required expertise. The developments in Madagascar will also open doors to investment for Mauritian entrepreneurs, specially that the island is also described as an ideal destination for foreign investors. As for local businesses, they might find in Madagascar a new market to target.
