The first day of the horse racing season, scheduled for Saturday, March 26, will be marked by a strike to be conducted by bookmakers of Champ-de-Mars.
The bookmakers are protesting against the increase in the license fee they have to pay to the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC). They now have to give away 4.5% of their turnover to the MTC, as opposed to the usual 1.5%.
The news of the strike was confirmed yesterday, March 24, during a press conference held by bookmaker Bijay Kumar Greedharee, reports DefiMedia.info. He said that the strike would happen until further notice.
