A Zika case has been confirmed in Reunion Island on March 7.

The infected person had travelled to Martinique, and returned to Reunion Island on March 5. That was when the symptoms of the disease appeared. He received medical attention on the same day; he was examined, and it was confirmed that he had indeed been infected by the zika virus.

It is reported that he contracted the disease when he was in Martinique itself — there is currently an epidemic in the country.

Preventive measures have been taken with respect to the surroundings of the patient in order to prevent the propagation of the virus in Reunion Island.

Otherwise, no autochthonous zika virus case has been identified in Reunion Island so far.
