The rate of HIV transmission seems to have stabilised in Mauritius.
Fewer new cases are now recorded per month – this has been going on since 2015. This is deemed to constitute some progress in curbing the proliferation of the virus.
The situation has been stabilising for the last five years, says the Ministry of Health.
Back in May 2015, only 14 cases were identified. In January and February of this year, only 23 and 21 new cases were found respectively. The highest rate is noted in September 2015, with 30 new cases. Otherwise, the data indicate hope for the country.
Furthermore, the decreasing trend is highly encouraging: we went from a total of 921 cases in 2005 to 322 in 2014 and ultimately to only 262 last year.
