Street vendors will not let go. Nor will the Ministry of Local Government. Who will win this fight?

Hunger strike. This might be what ultimately happens, according to what is reported by l’Express.mu. Street vendors have expressed their intention to go for a hunger strike if the authorities do not ‘lend an ear’ to what they have to say. This marks the second week they are denouncing the new rule stipulating that they can no more operate in their usual spots.

The decision to implement a hunger strike if the “situation does not improve” was announced by Hydar Ryman, the president of the ‘Front commun des marchands ambulants’, reports l’Express.mu.

They have also written a letter to the President of the Republic, Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, requesting her to intervene. They are still awaiting for her response.
