Panama Papers: Over 300 Mauritians on the List

Around 300 Mauritians feature in the Panama Papers published on May 9.

According to, over 300 Mauritians have been mentioned in the online list made available by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).

Most of the links to Mauritius appear to involve local firms which serve as intermediary for the creation of companies in other countries. points out that the majority of these individuals are mentioned because they have shares in offshore groups while they are not, however, active in the offshore sector – this would be perfectly legitimate and legal. However, a few of them are on the list because they have probably tried to hide wealth that has been acquired through illegal means, or to get away from the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA).
