The leader of the MSM, Pravind Jugnauth, has been nominated Minister of Finance by the President of the Republic, Ameenah Gurib-Fakim.
Pravind Jugnauth will take the oath today, May 26, at the State House.
The decision for his nomination was made hours after the judgement of the Supreme Court pertaining to the MedPoint affair was revealed; Pravind Jugnauth had appealed for trial after he was initially found guilty, and, now he has been exonerated, winning the trial.
In a statement to DefiMedia.info, the Prime Minister, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, said that he was always confident that there “was not really any case” against his son. According to him, justice has won.
He believes the latter has a great future in politics, and that the recent developments will give him a new beginning.
Also, now that a new Minister of Finance has been nominated, the presentation of the Budget 2016-2017 will be postponed; the initial date was scheduled for June 6.
