62 584 foreigners currently live in Mauritius.
This figure was revealed by the Prime Minister, Sir Anerood Jugnauth, during the National Assembly.
These foreigners do not include tourists though. Most of them come from Bangladesh and India, and are here for work. Otherwise, they are of 145 different nationalities.

The stay of foreigners in Mauritius is regulated by articles 4 and 5 of the Immigration Act. The visa normally lasts from one to six months, as per the article 25 of the Passport and Immigration Office.
DefiMedia.info reports that the Tracing and Tracking Team of the police has also identified and arrested around 100 clandestine foreigners who were eventually expelled from the country.
