MV Benita Stuck In Mauritian Waters: 3 Helicopters Involved in Pumping of Fuel Oil

The exercise entailing the pumping of fuel from Liberian shipwrecked vessel MV Benita continues.

Three police helicopters are being used to fetch the fuel oil from the ship currently situated at Le Bouchon to bring it to land. This is being done to avoid any instance whereby the fuel can spill into Mauritian waters while the vessel is stuck near the coral reefs.

Three helicopters are working together to transport the fuel to a football playground situated near the site.

Around 145 tonnes of fuel have been removed until now, and the helicopters have been going to and fro from the sea to the football playground. From there, the fuel will be taken to Virgin Oil Company Mauritius situated at Montagne-Blanche to be treated.
