Following the presentation of Budget 2016-2017, the prices of a series of products have been updated, including that of alcoholic drinks.
The new prices of beer have been made public by PhoenixBev, today, August 1. Given that the excise duties on beer have increased by 5%, the 330 mL-bottle of Phoenix Beer is now at Rs 32 while the 650 mL one is at Rs 59. Beer cans will be costing Rs 37.
As for other alcoholic drinks, the increase in excise duties is at 10%.
The prices of other products will be known shortly. For instance, that of cigarettes will be announced tomorrow morning, August 2, as the committee to decide upon the prices only came together today afternoon; it is to be noted that the increase in excise duties is at 25%. The new prices will be applicable tomorrow itself, says the local branch of the British American Tobacco (BAT). Also, retailers will be choosing their own new prices after the BAT has proclaimed its decision.
