The vaccination of farm animals has started today, August 22. Veterinarians from the Ministry of Agro-Industry are involved in the program.
20,000 vaccine doses arrived on Saturday night, August 20, from Botswana. Half of these were sent to Rodrigues the next day. As for the remaining, they will be used in the coming 30 months.
The vaccination campaign will occur within 3 kilometres of an affected region in Vallée-des-Prêtres. Otherwise-healthy animals will, thus, be protected from the epidemic.
Now that the animals have already obtained a vaccination dose today, the next one will only happen after 21 days, and yet another one is scheduled for 4 months later. Eventually, 3 supplementary vaccines will be given at 6-months intervals.
