Students protesting against the decision of the authorities pertaining to attendance rate and the payment of examination fees have required the intervention of the Special Support Unit (SSU) today, September 7.
A group of students from private college Basdeo Bissoondoyal situated at Centre-de-Flacq have indulged in acts of vandalism today, September 7, when protesting against the measures relating to the payment of examination fees for the School Certificate (SC) and the Higher School Certificate (HSC).
Gathered on the school premises, they damaged cars, including a police vehicle, and sent projectiles in all directions. The college authorities, therefore, had to call the SSU to bring back order.
The Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES) had announced earlier that students not having at least 90% attendance rate would have to pay for the fees. The deadline was initially set at Friday, September 9. It has now been extended further to the end of October.
